Description
Dyersville, Iowa ~ April 16, 2026 – Thanks to a $3,000 grant from Alliant Energy’s Community Tree
Planting Program, Part of the One Million Trees Initiative, we will be hosting a community planting day
on April 29, 2026, beginning at 2pm.
The $3,000 grant will be used to purchase 20 trees, (10) Norway Spruce and (10) Red Cedars. These
trees will help to shade our playground area as well as protect us from the wind. The trees have been
selected for the location with the help of our Trees Forever partners. Part of the grant is the trees all
need to be planted by volunteers.
Alliant Energy has committed to planting 1 million trees in Iowa and Wisconsin by the end of 2030. As of
January 2026, they have planted 627,644 trees. Planting trees provides more shade and cools the air,
helping lower energy costs and reduces peak electric demand. Each mature tree sequesters about 1,000
pounds of CO2 each year; as our trees grow they’ll make our communities healthier and more beautiful
places to live.
We welcome all volunteers from the community as many hands make light work to get these trees
planted. After school students at The Kid Project will be able to help as well! Bring a shovel and gloves if
you are able. Please reach out to Barb at 563.875.2080 or cindy@dyersville.com to RSVP and with any questions.
